Bird Watching in the Backyard

 In my aunt's backyard in Richmond Hill, I was fortunate enough to capture two beautiful birds, a dove and a red parrot. These two photographs are connected by the vibrant saturation of color, showing their harmonious relationship with their environment.

In the first photo, the pigeon stands gracefully on the fence of the courtyard, mechanically looking to the right. This moment shows the subtle beauty of everyday life. The pigeon's presence is accentuated by the contrasting colors of the fence. Although this photo was slightly overexposed in post-processing, I highlighted the pigeon's feather detail and elegant posture by using a masking technique that preserved the pigeon's saturation while depressing the exposure of the background to make it the focal point of the photo.


The other photo shows a lifelike red parrot, standing quietly between the leaves, looking down into the lower left corner. By looking at it from a flat angle, I tried to capture an intimate moment of the parrot's bright red feathers against the green foliage. Again, this image faced the problem of overexposure. To ensure that the parrot's colors were preserved in the edit, I again used the masking technique to enhance its saturation, while slightly adjusting the brightness of the background to make the parrot stand out more in the image.

During the shoot, I realized it was crucial to maintain a quiet environment. The sounds of chatter and dining during our backyard gatherings made it so that these birds rarely dared to approach. It made me ponder that perhaps we were unknowingly invading their space in our lives, while they were trying to adapt to our presence. This dynamic relationship between man and nature has prompted me to pay more attention to my interactions and observations with these wild animals.

In the future, I hope to continue to improve my photography skills to better capture these fleeting and precious moments of nature. Through continued learning and practice, I look forward to a deeper understanding of the subtle connection between us and the natural world, and the joy of sharing these beautiful moments.

The combination of movements: Portraits of squirrels and ecological reflections

In this set of portraits of squirrels, I observed the different states of two squirrels on the Ravine Road Trail and the Ginger Valley Trail on the mountain behind the school, capturing their unique charm in their natural environment. The first squirrel was eating intently, holding a bunch of red fruit in his hand. The sun shines through the dense undergrowth, making his hair even more colorful. This squirrel is so cute when it's busy, I put it in the bottom right corner of the picture to make it look smaller and more charming. In the post-processing, I individually selected the fruit in its hand and strengthened the saturation, making the red fruit under the sun more attractive and attracting the eyes of the viewer. At the same time, I treated its eyes separately, reducing the de-fog value, and making the eyes look clearer and more vivid. Whispers by the Lake: Photographic documentation of aquatic animals

 The theme of presenting aquatic animals in their natural environment made me pay more attention to the delicate relationship between wild animals and their habitats. This is not only a photographic journey, but also a profound experience of observation and understanding. The first photo, taken at Sassafras Point Lookout in the hills behind the school, shows a swan foraging in the water. The white swan seemed to be enjoying its dinner, but its eyes looked as if it was annoyed with me for interrupting. To create a stronger visual impact, I chose to make the center of the ripples the focus of the photo, rather than include the whole swan in the frame. This cut allows the viewer to focus on the expression and movement of the swan, creating an instant capture effect. In post-processing, I made three special adjustments. Bird Close-up and “Black and White“ Beauty

In my recent shoots, I have focused on three different bird species that not only show a detailed natural state but also reveal their uniqueness in their environment through black-and-white tones. These photographs have given me a greater understanding of the relationship between humans and nature, and our interactions with these wild animals. The first photo is of a pigeon that I photographed in my aunt's backyard. This pigeon stood gracefully on a flower bed and was eating grass seeds with gusto. Through close-ups, I captured the details of its plumage, especially its black and white feathers , highlighting the pigeon in its serene environment. The pigeon was gazing to the left, so I placed it on the right side of the composition to give the image more balance and further emphasize its concentration.
